Reptilian Shaman

Since I am working on a project I don't have much new news to tell, so I just wanted to share some other work I do in my sketchbook in my down time, and continuing on with worlds of monsters and fantasy, Here is another creature summoned from the darkest depths my sketchbook.

Summon Spell

Like in the Goblin Savage image I made a while ago, with this image I wanted not just to create a creature, but also put it into some kind of class. This adds a whole new world to the image, now you have more insight into the creature and how it might at in the world around it.

Exaggerated Portrait # 9 : Frankie

"If I only Had A Brain"

Dear Doctor,

I’m writing to you today to make a request. Even though I am grateful to you for the medical treatment it seems as though you’ve forgotten to include my Thinkie Part in the last surgery. As it turns out there is very little you can do without one. I can't eat without getting food everywhere, I can’t walk without falling and now I don’t even remember how to play scrabble. I can't even begin to understand how I’m writing to you now though there is a great deal of drool coming from my mouth as I do.My neightbors are starting to grow sick of me since I’ve been throwing their children into the lake and then pooping on their lawns.
I know you’re busy Doc so I will get to the point and ask that if you would be so kind, I would love a "Thinkie part" for my head hole, so I can read this letter.

Yours truly
Frankie

Monster Sketches

I love monsters, like, really love them. As a kid I would spend hours just drawing all these different creatures and as I’ve grown up that love has remained the same. Something about creating all these never before seen creatures, it was like being an adventurer within my own mind; exploring the depths of imagination to find what has never been seen.

Another fun thing to do now that I’ve grown up is to actually come up with how these creatures would exist in reality.
For example the top right creature, what does it eat? Where does it live? It’s a fun world and I’m glad I get to share it with everyone.

Old Projects

Recently I finished my first job illustrating a children's book, which I'll elaborate on as soon as it gets printed. It was a very proud moment, however it was not the first book i had worked on.
A few years back, around my first year in college, I met Sally Guariglia. Sally was working on a self published book, that book was Godfree.  I created the cover, and a few spots.

If you're  interested in purchasing it check it out here: GODFREE  !!!

Exaggerated Portrait # 8 : Larry

Larry is an okay guy. He's happy, considerate to others, and always willing to help. So why is a nice guy like Larry so alone? Well, sadly the answer is simple; Larry is one ugly man.  With his crossed eyes and his big nose covered in blackheads most women don’t even look at Larry, except to point and stare.

Larry has weird hair growing all over him, an oddly large Adam’s apple, and worst of all every time he speaks his long tongue flops around causing spit to fly everywhere.

Despite his loneliness Larry always tries to keep his spirits up. He had his family to commiserate with and every now and then he would go to the park to feed the pigeons.

One day while feeding his friends in the park Larry noticed a woman crawling on her hands and knees. She had her arms outstretched, feeling around on the ground. While everyone else ignored her, Larry being kind at heart went quickly to see if she was okay. As it turned out the woman was looking for her very large, thick lens glasses. Larry bent over and began to help her look for them when she said “Thanks so much! I’m practically blind without my glasses.” It was then Larry thought better and stopped looking for the glasses but instead told her that finding them was probably a lost cause and that she should just go out to dinner with him instead.

Spring Time Garden

Spring time is closing in, and the weather is getting warmer and warmer as each day passes. It’s time to go out and play. It’s that time of year when you get to work in the garden, play in the park, and look up at clouds while resting against the trees.

It’s the time flowers bloom again and the weather is something you want to be in. It’s thanks to this lovely weather that I spent some time drawing outside while I watched my girlfriend work in her garden.

I drew this photo above along with sketches for a new project. While drawing outside, other then some wind, I had such a great time drawing from life outdoors. Usually I am stuck hunched over a table looking at my computer or photos, depending on my reference, but outside I was put into a nice calm; looking out at a world of inspiration I think I had forgot about.

My mind set was so different, and in a good way. So when you’re able, I recommend going out and doing so yourself.

One Little Goblin

Though not my primary preference, I do love worlds of fantasy and do consider myself a fantasy artist, though not a traditional one.  The Monsters more then anything in fantasy its the other races and creatures that I truly love, the darker sides to fantasy.  Goblins, horrors, dragons, ogres, and so on and so on, I have a fun time drawing those types of creatures.

Goblin Savage

The Drawing above is a goblin savage that I made while I had some free time.

Monsters Go to Work

I love the endless imagination of a child. Their ability to create amazing worlds and scenarios out of the boredom of everyday life just floats my boat... so I made my own image to celebrate that.

I showed this image in progress a little while ago along with a photo of me and my missing tooth.

Exaggerated Portrait # 7 : Hank

Hank Just can't win today

Poor Hank, this just hasn’t been his day. He had to attend The Big Meeting today in his office that began promptly at 10:00am. Unfortunately there was a black out the night before making his alarm clock reset. Hank didn’t wake up until 9:59am. So when he woke up he rushed out of the house, into his car, onto the road where he immediately hit traffic.

He arrived at work at 11:00 am, just in time to see everyone leave the conference room. Hank saw his boss leave the room and when their eyes met his boss glared. Hank was too ashamed and frustrated to look back or even say a word to defend himself. He just put his head down and headed for his desk.

A moment later Hank’s boss popped up from behind his cubicle wall. It was the moment hank had been dreading.

Hank stared at his boss, waiting for the hammer to come down upon him. He clenched his fist around his pen so hard the ink burst all over his hands.

"Hank, we’re all a disappointed you weren’t able to make it to the meeting this morning. It was very important for you to be there. In fact it was so important we’re having it again right now so get off your butt and get into the conference room! Hank quickly got up and ran into the conference, ready to be yelled at. As he entered the room he noticed a big cake and before he was able comprehend what was happening everyone shouted
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”

I decided to write up a little story for this image and all the ones to come in the future. to add a bit more depth to the images. So I hope you enjoyed and are looking forward to next weeks

Ouch ! my face ...

I haven't done a post in a while, but there is a reason for that, other than laziness.  I recently had some important dental work done which put me out.  I had a very deep cavity that needed to be drilled and a "bad" tooth that needed to be pulled. The latter I've kept in a little bag.

Picture below for all to see :

here is a lovely photo of the after math.

However, I didn't post this just to complain  and not show you anything of value.  So here is a work in progress! Because I love monsters.

Sketch for piece : Monsters on the Go
I had this concept for a while and it went through a couple of different versions before picking this one.  When I'm done working on it I'll give more of a back story for you readers out there.
